Colorado Parks and Wildlife monitoring efforts of the fish ladder installed on the Cache la Poudre River at Watson Lake in the spring of 2019 shows it has been a success. The fish ladder has improved conditions on the river and reconnected over two miles of river habitat by providing upstream movement opportunities for fish that had not existed at the Watson Lake Diversion Structure location since it was built in the 1960s. This stretch contains important spawning habitat and deep pools that provide refuge for aquatic life. In a collaborative effort, Morning Fresh Dairy, Northern Water and noosa yoghurt partnered with Colorado Parks and Wildlife on the project. Aquatic biologist Kyle Battige provides an update on the ladder in this video.
